While a filling is intended to repair a tooth for a significant amount of time, no filling is immune to the passage of time. If the pervasive bacteria in your mouth exploit the cement holding the filling in place, causing the filling to fall out, Dr. Angela Catalano might recommend restoring the tooth with a dental crown. A dental crown in Las Vegas, Nevada, essentially replaces all of the tooth enamel with either porcelain, gold or base metal alloys.

Dr. Angela Catalano will want to examine the tooth in question and take some X-rays. It’s important to make sure that the problem is limited to the tooth enamel. If a new area of decay has formed and has penetrated deep into the tooth, she might need to perform a root canal. This will remove the infected areas and rebuild the internal structures of the tooth.

Your dentist will then remove all of the remaining tooth enamel, leaving behind a small, post-like structure called an abutment. This will eventually anchor your new crown.

A detailed impression will be made of the abutment and the surrounding teeth. Dr. Angela Catalano will then secure a temporary crown over the abutment to keep it safe. The impression will then be sent to the dental lab where the technician will craft your new crown.

Dr. Angela Catalano will call you in for a brief second appointment when your new crown is ready. The temporary crown will be removed and your new crown will be cemented into place during this appointment.
